Life Science

In this course we will study the science of life! We will start the course by learning to think like a scientist and become more proficient in the language of science! After we begin thinking and talking like scientists we will learn about the most basic unit of life: the cell. The cell might seem simple but once we dive into the details you’ll be both amazed and surprised by its complexity! From there we will build up to discussing different forms of life across the plant, animal, fungi, and protist kingdoms! Life Science at TEEN DAY is a discussion-based learning course that relies on student participation and excitement for the subject. We will have discussion assignments, lab reports, and presentations to allow students to showcase their knowledge.

Instructors: Terry Bates and Andrew Martinez

Prior to pursuing his PhD at Cornell, Terry taught physical science and chemistry at the high school and community college levels. He has a passion for teaching and introducing students to the world of science!

Andrew Martinez PhotoAndrew Martinez is a senior at Cornell studying Microbiology and Spanish with plans to go to medical school after graduation. He has conducted research as part of the Forage Breeding Project studying how genetics affects plant growth and is now currently working in the School of Veterinary Medicine studying how the brain heals after injury.
