Illustration and Fine Art

This course will introduce students to the intersecting realms of illustration and fine art, with a focus on drawing and painting. Through demos, instruction, prompts and critiques, students will learn techniques and approaches for works not only intended for hanging on the wall in a frame, but also for the pages of a book. While mostly studio-based, the class will also involve research on art professions and the works of artists and illustrators living and working today. Due to the instructor’s focus, this course will primarily be in drawing and painting by hand, using pencil, ink, and watercolor. However, there will be demos on finalizing files for printing in Photoshop or similar open source software. By the end of the classes, students will have a portfolio of 2-D work.
