Algebra I

This is an introductory linear algebra course. While some support for arithmetic struggles can be provided, almost all arithmetic will be assumed to be solid or, at most, requiring only a quick reminder. However, nothing MORE will be assumed, so the concepts of variables, constants, equalities, and equations will all be introduced before we move to the elementary procedures and practices for solving systems of equations, moving from single unknowns to multiple equations with multiple unknowns of increasing complexity.

Instructor: Brendan Wyly

Instructor Bio: I once quite seriously set about becoming an engineer. The studies that followed from that endeavor ended up being important to me personally (intellectually, epistemologically, emotionally) and professionally (work opportunities, earnings) even though I do not work as an engineer. The study of math was a key element of that “turn” in my life. I’m teaching this class in case there are homeschooling kids looking for something like that path to explore.

Required Materials: pen or pencil; notebook and folder or looseleaf notebook; calculator
