Drawing

In this class we will explore different approaches to making drawings, responding to student interests and experience, helping students articulate personal goals and directions. The class will include drawing from life, play with abstraction, pattern, narrative, and scale. We will use various materials including graphite, charcoal, ink, pastel/colored pencil. Participants will look at and discuss images from throughout the history of art (including contemporary art ) in relation to to our work. Constructive feedback and critique of our own and others work will be an important part of the class.

Sometimes drawing can seem intimidating to kids who feel like they “can’t draw.” This class aims to show drawing as a tool for thinking and understanding, instead of creating polished finished products and the pressure that comes along with that.

A small amount of work outside of class will be expected including keeping a sketch book and watching an occasional video or looking at some images.
