Algebra I

This Beginning Algebra/Algebra 1 course introduces students to operations of the integers, algebraic operations (distribution, addition of like terms, evaluation of algebraic expressions), linear equations and inequalities with applications, coordinate graphing, linear graphing and equations of lines, exponents, operations with polynomials, factoring, solving higher degree equations by factoring, and solving quadratics by factoring, graphing, and using the quadratic formula. In this class, students will develop the ability to explore and solve real-world application problems and communicate mathematical ideas clearly. This course lays the foundation for mathematical literacy that will help students be successful in every subsequent course in mathematics.

Instructor Bio: Hi! My name is Amanda Gray, and I love math! I am a Mathematics and Science tutor at Tompkins-Cortland Community College as well as a private tutor in the Homer community. I pride myself in my ability to create comfortable and constructive learning environments and am always excited to introduce students to new mathematical concepts and ideas. My goal is to always make the topics I teach as fun as possible, and I’m really looking forward to making this math class a student favorite!

Prerequisites: fluency in basic arithmetic
